Once Upon a Time in Maine

We first crossed paths at work in late 2016. Kat had just joined the company as a conference coordinator; CJ was a web developer about a year into his role. Though we technically met then, Kat soon moved into sales and our paths rarely crossed. We worked on different floors, leading lives that ran parallel more than intertwined—save for the occasional elevator ride.
Years later, at a company holiday party in December 2022—hosted at the very hotel where we’ll celebrate with all of you—a casual conversation at Top of the East shifted something. A friend jokingly suggested we grab coffee. We laughed, but CJ followed through.
In January 2023, we met for a drink at Little Tap House and discovered something neither of us had expected.
Where the Plot Thickened
From the beginning, there was an ease to it—quiet but certain. Weekly dates turned into shared routines, laughter that lingered, and the comfort of being fully ourselves. We talked about everything. And over time, the simple things—walks, meals, Maine maple Old Fashioneds—became the foundation of something much deeper.
The proposal night brought us full circle. CJ planned a walk down memory lane—Little Tap House, dinner at Boda, a final stop at Top of the East. Kat thought it might happen right out of the gate, so each “not yet” left her a little more unsure. Meanwhile, CJ was gaining confidence with every stop, thinking the buildup was working perfectly. By the time we reached the porch, we were on completely different emotional wavelengths—but that’s exactly where he’d planned it all along, so the moment could be captured on the Ring camera. He asked, and she said yes!
